        Introduction

Guangwen ZHANG, the researcher in the Palace Museum, member of National Committee of Cultural Relics Identification, professor of Resource School in Peking University, worked at the Palace Museum from 1978, specializing in cultural relics management and ancient artworks research. He has been appointed as the group leader of craft group in both storage department and ancient artworks department. During his research for over 20 years, he has published near 100 papers related to jadeware research and other works.

        Research orientation

He is devoted himself in the following three aspects. Firstly, researching history, types and use conditions of jadewares in Ming and Qing Dynasty; finding out the main characteristics, representative works, productive and industrial situation of jadewares in different periods of Qing Dynasty; researching the production of imitated and fake ancient jade. Secondly, identifying the specific productive time of jadeware; making classifications and comparisons of jadewares in different periods; finding out the changing situations and features of jadewares; making it clear that the development of jadeware and focusing more on the evaluation of ancient jareware. Thirdly, studying the history and development of ancient jadeware with the emphasis of the ideas and conventions of jade-use as well as the brief explanations of ancient jade; analyzing the features of jade production and usage as well as the geological changes of the jadeware that buried underground, which can be applied as the evaluating evidence.
